Replacing Licenses

If the computer becomes inoperable so that the license cannot be Moved to another computer, a new license will be required.  If the old computer's hard drive can be recovered, then this will help, or if any backup or Archive of the SpecView project is available, that would also help. See below for how to recover important license information.

A replacement license may be supplied at no charge but ONLY if there is a current Update Subscription and where SpecView personnel can be informed of the serial number of the license that has been lost.  This can be recovered from the Project files. See below for how to recover important license information.

If the Update Subscription has expired a new two-year or five-year subscription must be purchased.

Note, it is more cost efficient to extend a current subscription, than to purchase a new subscription after expiry.

To avoid this, renew the subscription when SpecView advises that it is about to expire.

If a replacement license is required in these circumstances, please contact your SpecView representative because this cannot be done as an automatic process.

Recovering Important License Information

If files can be recovered from the old failed computer's hard-drive or if there is a backup of the Project files then the SETTINGS.INI file contains the following information. To view this, open SETTINGS.INI in a text editor (such as Notepad):

The [LicLog] section inside that file shows which SpecView license(s) have been used with this project, the example below shows license 00001701 was last used to run this project:
